
5 of the students kidnapped from Government Day Secondary School Kaya in Maradun Local Council of Zamfara state have been rescued by authorities.
The five students were taken back to their homes around 1 a.m yesterday.
The Zamfara State House of Assembly announced that security in the state do not usually respond to calls of distress regarding bandit attacks.The deputy speaker, Musa Yankuzo affirmed this statement with the other lawmakers on Wednesday.
Zamfara police spokesman,Mohammed Shehu claims that the students were not freed but rather were rescued by authorities and taken safely to their respective homes.
He also mentioned that the girls had undergone medical check ups and joined their families after.
According to research conducted by UNICEF, out of 1000 school children who have been kidnapped in Nigeria from December 2020, 200 still remain in captivity.
