Barring any moment , the ALL Progressives Congress ( APC) will commence registration exercise for new members and validation of old members
This follows the approval of the party’s timetable by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Acting National Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Mai Mala Buni who made this known to State House Correspondents at the end of a meeting of some governors with the President in Abuja said that the party’s NEC would meet before the end of the year and come up with a proper timetable for the registration denied reports that the commitee plans to extend its tenure.
Buni who is also the governor of Yobe State denied reports that the commitee plans to elongate its tenure saying only the National Executive Council of the APC is constitionally empowered to elongate or end the tenure of the caretaker commitee.
He listed some of the progess made by the commitee so far which included reconciliation of aggrieved members of the party, the Ondo election victory, and the return of high ranking members of the party such as former Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and Senator Barnabas Gemade to the party.
The APC had for the past few days being in the eye of the storm following calls for a national convention by aggrieved members.
Some members had even issued a 14 – day ultimatum to the caretaker commitee members to step down after accusing it of planning tenure elongation.
However some party faithful in Abuja who spoke to current matters under condition of anonymity said the tenure of the caretaker commitee considering the ernoumous mandate was too short for anything meaningful to be achieved.
According to them, the commitee is vested with the responsibility of doing everything possible to calm frayed nerves in order to properly position the party for electoral gains ahead.
They said now is the time to build a strong party and not to engage in divisive acts as asking for resignation of the caretaker commitee members adding that when the whole issue of reconciliation is sorted out,a convention can be organised.
