Violence protest ‘ Catholic Pontiff worried, asks for urgent prayers for Nigeria
Head of the Catholic Church,Pope Francis on Sunday , asked for urgent prayers for Nigeria to avert violence in the country.
According to the pope, prayers were needed to avoid any act that continually violates peaceful resolution of issues
Pope Francis tweeted” Let us pray to the Lord for Nigeria so that every form of violence might always be avoided in the constant search of social harmony through the promotion of justice and the common good.
In the past two weeks, record level violence had been unleashed by hoodlums in states and even the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja with more threats of violence reportedly ahead.
Scores of people have died while properties of government and innocent Nigerians have been razed without fear of the rule of law.
The lawless acts of the youths have caused palpable fear across the
country as the government Law enforcement agencies appear helpless to save lives and properties.
Reports of destruction are disturbing as most of the states where properties were vandalised were under a 24 hour curfew in place to take people off the streets.
But the persistent attack on state, Federal Government and properties of innocent citizens rings alarm bells on seriousness of the situation at hand
