EFCC arrests Pastor for “Yahoo Yahoo”fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC,has arrested a pastor of Apostolic church in ile- Ife Osun State, Gbenga Moses Adesoju ,in connection with a N12.7million Yahoo Yahoo fraud.
The clergy was arrested with one Adebayo Olawale, of Fashina Road in same Ile-Ife ,for defrauding one Umar Hayatu ,of Lafiya quaters,Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe state.
Both men were arrested in Ile-Ife following a petition jointly written by the relatives of Umar Hayatu
In their petition, the relatives alleged that the suspects conspired and defrauded the victim through social media platforms and phone calls under the guise that he won some luxury items including car, phones and also offer of appointment into a juicy position.
The prime suspect, Adebayo, contacted the victim using fake Facebook account names, Williams Angelliina and Omotola Adebayo.
The suspect deceived the victim into believing that his parents (Adebayo s) have a company abroad and will make Hayatu the Nigerian manager of the company in Lagos.
He further sent the victim fake pictures of houses and cars that would be given to him as fringe benefits as soon as the company commences operation.
The suspect also promised him 30,000,US dollars, iphone and jewelries.
Preliminary Investigation by the Anti-graft agency revealed that N12,798,387,00 proceeds of the fraud were traced to the suspect’s account in a new generation bank.
His accomplice, Pastor Gbenga, received a BMW car,a plot of land and various sums of money from the proceeds of crime for his spiritual intervention.
The suspects have volunteered useful information and would be charged to court as soon as Investigation is concluded the EFCC says
