Labour Unions boost re-election chances of Obaseki
Leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) ,Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) have vowed to mobilize their members to vote for Governor Godwin Obaseki in September 19 governoship election.
The labour leaders who made the statement at various fora to the media said their desire to re-elect the governnor was borne out of his administration’s priority placed on workers welfare which includes prompt payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities to retirees as well as other entitlements.
They said the least they could do for him to reciprocate his sense of good governance was to re-elect him.
The Chairman of Edo State chapter of the NLC, Emmanuel Ademokun was quoted as saying” We did not come here to campaign today but to let everybody know that the governor doesn’t joke with payment of pensions and salary. What do we want again? You don’t change a working governor, but rather you re-elect him”
‘ The Nigerian Labour Congress under my watch never had issues with the governor, those with him are more than those that are against him.”
The TUC Chairman on his part, said there have been no strikes actions for four years because of prompt payment of salaries by the Obaseki’s government saying” What else could we have asked of this Man? and reassured the preparedness of members of the union to vote massively for the governor on Saturday.
The NULGE Chairman , Lazarus Adorolo gave Obaseki a pat on the back for revenue drive. He said “Before now, local government revenue was nothing to write home about, but today,we can collect our revenue without an issue”
