The House of Representatives says the amount of money allocated for the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kano Road is too high compared to other offers made.
The sum of N155billion haf been allocated to put the road in good shape, out of which an initial payment of N70 billion was made.
The Chairman of the House on Works, Malam Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, made this known while inspecting the road on August 30.
Abubakar said other companies quoted N90 billion against the awarded firm, Julius Berger’s earlier N159billion which was scaled down to N155billion.
According to him, even with the initial payment made by the federal government, the road is not in good shape as much work has not been done by the construction firm, saying” We have several petitions regarding this project in the house”
The lawmaker said the way the project is being handled may lead to another setback which he claimed affected the Lagos- Ibadan road adding” There is nine months left on the contract and we must emphasise that it must be delivered on schedule. There will be no extension otherwise,we will apply the force of the constitution”.
