FRSC Officer lands in hospital bed after severe beating by an angry mob
An Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corp in Delta State,C U. Mgbede, and a truck driver are reportedly receiving treatment in a hospital following injuries received from beating.
Current matters gathered that Mgbede was beaten mercilessly by an angry mob on Thursday,along the Benin-Asaba Expressway, Asaba. for forcefully pushing out the truck driver out of his moving vehicle, in a way that he almost lost his life.
It was learnt that the FRSC officer, jumped into the moving truck in a commando style and allegedly forced down the truck driver after efforts to take over the steering failed
The driver was said to have landed on the road and was gasping for breadth which attracted the mob action against the officer..
Reports say the FRSC response team, arrived the scene of the incident in time and took both the officer and the driver to the Federal Medical Center Asaba for proper medication
Reacting to the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state,Alphonsious Godwin, said the officer did not push the driver out of the truck as speculated.
According to him, “The man was asked to stop at the checkpoint because he was not using the seatbelt.Rather than stopping,he moved ahead and the marshal jumped into the vehicle and took control
of the steering wheel “
” He stopped the vehicle immediately and was trying impound the vehicle when the mob stormed the scene and beat the officer to a pulp”
” Before our response team got to the scene the mob had brutalised the officer.Our men carried the two of them who were laying on the ground to the FMC Asaba. This is one of the challenges we are facing on the job when vehicle owners try to resist arrest.”. he said
