Indigenes of Saki community,Oyo State on Thursday evening
clashed with men of the Nigerian Custom leading to the death of a custom officer .
The clash followed the alleged killing of a suspected smuggler by Customs Officials who had trailed the man said to be an indigene into the town over suspected smuggling activities
The killing of the Man it was learnt, sparked reactions from the residents as they attacked the Customs office in the town and in the process,a custom Officer was killed while a patrol vehicle was destroyed.
The Police Spokesman,Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the incident and said that the police in Saki Area Command had been deployed to the town to restore law and order.
According to him, those who allegedly chased the suspected smuggler into the town were members of the Joint Task Force and not the Customs Patrol Team.
Report has it that the traditional ruler of Saki,Oba Khalid Olabisi had declared a state of emergency to bring the crisis under control.
