Joe Biden, former Vice President of the United States if America and Presidential hopeful of the Democrats has chosen Kamala Harris,as running mate in the November electioms.
Harris is the first black woman and the third woman to serve as a Vice Presidential Candidate for a major political party.The first woman was Geraldine Ferraro, in 1984,and Sarah Palin in 2008.
Born October 20,1964, in Oakland, California, Harris is a lawyer, public prosecutor and a serving Senator in the United States Senate.
She is the first African American woman and Indian American to serve in the USA Senate.
Harris was one of the Presidential aspirants under the Democratic party but did not go far enough
The fifty six year old woman is of mixed race,her mother an immigrant from Chennai, India, while her father, Jamaican immigrant.
Her choice as running mate is said to have sent shivers to the spine of the ruling Republican Party as her dual identities are seen as mixed blessing to the Democrats to further connect population of people of colour and galvanise their voting blocks.
Biden and Harris are to formally accept the Democratic nominations during the Party’s convention that would hold virtually next week.
