The Police in Katsina State, have arrested two nurses and another woman, for allegedly stealing a baby.
The baby was delivered and believed to be abandoned by the mother,one Shamsiya Sani of Dandagoro Quaters, Katsina,at a private hospital on July 25 2020.
Those arrested are Misira Tijani,35 of Flin Canada Quaters, Katsina,Grace Ejigu,43 of Shagari Low – cost Housing estate, Katsina,and Eucharia Onyema,45 of Sabuwa Kasuwa Quaters, Katsina,who was said to have bought the baby.
In his statement to newsmen, the State Police Public Relations Officer,Gambo Isah, said the mother of the child, Shamsiya is believed to have abandoned the baby after delivery at the hospital because it was conceived out of wedlock.
According to him, nemesis caught up with them when they were arrested on their way to their various homes with the new born baby through the help of a Keke NAPEP (tricycle) rider who suspected them of stealing the child.
The tricycle driver instead of taking them to their homes took them to the Sabon gari police division after eavesdropping on their conversation.
Isah said the baby is with the Social Welfare Department of the Ministry of Youths and Social Development adding that those arrested would be charged after conclusion of Investigation.
The nurses however denied selling the baby but admitted handing her to Onyema on humanitarian grounds.
