Rivers State Police Commissioner, Joseph Mukan, has asked Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to hand over the former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Joi Nunieh to him as she was still under investigation.
Briefing newsmen in his office in Port Harcourt on Friday, Mukan called on the governor to hand over Nunieh to him saying that she was still under investigation.
Wike had gone to Nunieh’s residence to rescue her following the invasion of her residence by armed mobile policemen.
The governor had noted that the Policemen had no arrest warrant to take her away so he,took her to government house for safety.
Mukan reiterated that the Policemen from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Team were endorsed by the Rivers State Police Command before proceeding to the residence of the former Acting Managing Director of the NDDC.The police Commissioner said that what the police did was legitimate and within the confines of the law and described the action of the governor as unfortunate.
” It is really unfortunate because under normal circumstances if His Excellency (Wike) is saying that he went to rescue her,he is supposed to handover to me because I am the Commissioner of Police on ground and I will be in a better position to take her than for him to take her to Government House.”
“Nobody said she should not protect his citizens, but everything should be done within the confines of the law.
“If you rescue your citizen,we expect you to turn her over to the police who are in a better position to protect her.I still believe he is going to turn her over because the exercise was legitimate. It was within the confines of the law”
