The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI II), Okpravero Ufuoma, for allegedly prompting a traveller to give him money .
A spokesman for the NIS , Kenneth Udo, disclosed that the officer’s conduct, in a viral video does not reflect the values and ethics of the Service.
According to him, the Service received the viral video with the caption, ‘This is how Immigration officers treat tourists in Nigeria’.
The Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, also condemned the alleged misconduct in the strongest terms, saying that it undermined the ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing service standards.
Nandap, however, assured the public that the officer has been indefinitely suspended pending the outcome of disciplinary procedures, in accordance with the law and Public Service Rules.
She stressed that the officer’s act does not represent the commitment of the service to hospitality, reception and courtesy..
