Following what is described as a disturbing threats to peace ” In the wake of the incident that occurred along the Eleme/Okrika axis on Thursday, 2nd July 2026, a high-level peace meeting was convened today at the office of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police on Moscow Road.
According to an X user Dagogo Achese,”the meeting brought together the Chairmen of Okrika and Eleme Local Government Areas, Hon. Akuro Tobin and Hon. Obarilomate Ollor, security chiefs, traditional rulers, and other critical stakeholders to review the situation and chart a path toward lasting peace.
“Deliberations focused on enhancing security, fostering dialogue among the affected communities, and implementing proactive measures to prevent a recurrence. Participants collectively reaffirmed their resolve to work together in preserving peace, protecting lives and property, and upholding law and order.
Prior to the meeting with the police,Ollor had in a World Press Conference at his behest condemned the encroachment on” eleme ancestral lands by neighbouring communities and external speculators to which end he signed an executive order immediately suspending all real estate and land development activities pending a review of land ownership and documentation .
There were reports of gunshots on Thursday night around the axis of conflict, however, there has not been any reports of casualties.
