At least one person has been confirmed dead and many still trapped after a four – storey building collapsed along the ever busy Odili road in the Trans Amadi area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The building, which was under construction reportedly for hospitality business, collapsed shortly before mid-day on Wednesday.

At the site of the incident were Emergency service agencies including, Rivers State Emergency Services and Ambulance system, Rivers State Fire Service, the Nigerian Police as well as agencies including the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Red Cross, and a professional organisation —the Nigerian Society of Engineers,Rivers State Branch.

An interview with a member of the Society of Engineers,Engr,Tonye Banigo at the scene of the incident revealed that the foundation of the building was originally for a three – story building while the materials used were substandard.

According to Banigo,a touch of the rubble indicates that the materials had been compromised as the concrete had too much sand than cement.

A bystander,an Aboki , someone from the northern part of the country told this publication that although he could not give the total number of people in the building that they may be more than 10 mostly artisans.

Meanwhile,Rescue efforts are still ongoing
