The Federal Government has officially launched the 2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), with the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, alongside population experts, affirming the credibility of its findings.
The NDHS is a comprehensive national data report that provides critical insights into Nigeria’s health and demographic landscape.
According to the 2024 survey, Nigeria has recorded a significant reduction in the under-five mortality rate—now at 110 deaths per 1,000 live births—compared to 132 per 1,000 in 2018. The Total Fertility Rate has also declined, dropping from 5.3 children per woman in 2018 to 4.8 in 2024.
Speaking at the document’s unveiling, the Minister of State for Health, leadership of the National Population Commission, and other implementing partners urged state governments to prioritize the development of a modern, 21st-century health system that delivers quality care and saves lives.
They also called on key stakeholders in the health sector to use the data to drive impactful reforms and advance national development.
