The Nigerian Senate has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike to suspend ongoing demolition exercise except those ordered by court of competent jurisdiction until it conducts an investigation.
In this direction, the upper chamber has constituted an adhoc committee with deputy president of the senate, Barau Jibrin as chairman to investigate the matter and report back within two weeks.
The development followed a motion from Senator Ireti Kingibe who alleged that due process was not adhered to in the demolition exercise.
The Senate directive comes amid several reports on right activists tackling the FCT Minister on the demolition exercises tagging it a land grabbing design .
