The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy,Mr Bayo Onanuga says reports on N105,000 minimum wage proposal to President Bola Tinubu is false.
Taking to his verified X handle on Thursday, he wrote ” The Honourable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy,Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage
” The contrary story being disseminated is false “
The clarification came hours after an online publication reported that Edun proposed a N105,000 minimum wage per month to the president.
Earlier on Thursday, the Finance Minister had submitted the proposed cost of the new minimum wage to the President
He submitted the document along with the Minister of Budget and National Planning,Atiku Bagudu to the President in his office at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The Federal Government had proposed a N60,000 per month minimum wage for workers but the organised Labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC which demanded a N494,000 minimum wage kicked against the proposal and mobilised their members for a nationwide indefinite strike June 3.
The unions shut down key public institutions including schools and hospitals and major infrastructures such as power supply from the national grid and airports.
The strike however was called off Tuesday afternoon after an agreement between the Federal Government and Labour to further discussion on increased minimum wage
