The Commissioners of Education in Rivers,Prof. Chinedu Mmom and his Housing counterpart, Dr Gift Worlu have resigned their appointments.
In their separate letters of resignation, the commissioners said their working environment had become very unfriendly to them to perform their duties.
According to Mmom,” It is a truism that a calm, safe and friendly environment would stimulate efficient service delivery and enhance productivity. It is however unfortunate to know that my current work place has become toxic and no longer guarantees a favourable environment to enable me realise my set targets for the Education sector in the State. There is loss of trust, animosity and sharp division among colleagues in the same cabinet which is unhealthy and very unfortunate “
In the same vein,Worlu , said that the resignation was “one of the most difficult decisions in his life” but that it was ” precipated by the toxic atmosphere that has characterised our working relationship , especially the smouldering arbitrariness of decisions and actions, including the attempt to fuse the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State.
The two Commissioners are among those loyal to the former governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, who since October last year had been in the eye of the storm for the battle of the soul of Rivers against his erstwhile godson and successor,Gov. Siminalayi Fubara.
Recently, the former Attorney – General,Prof. Zacheaus Adangor resigned from his office citing similar issues which government officials copiously debunked.
