No fewer than five police officers have been shot dead by gunmen in Abakaliki, the Ebony state capital on Friday morning.
The incident happened around 5 am around the Ebyia bridge along Hilltop Nwoke road,a source told our correspondent.
The development comes 24 hours after the military cleared the Supreme Headquarters of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB and the Eastern Security Network ESN.
Current matters gathered that the incident has created tension in the area as fear of reprisals from the police appear imminent .
Killing of police personnel and facilities are common scenarios in the South East States of Enugu,Ebonyi,Abia, Anambra and Imo following the activities of non – state actors under the IPOB/ ESN banner.
