ECOWAS Ministers Meet On Mali, Burkina Faso,Niger Exit . 

President of the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS Commission, Dr Alieu Touray said a meeting of Ministers of the West Africa Economic Bloc is underway in Abuja.

According to Touray, the meeting will consider among others,the notification of withdrawal of Mali , Burkina Faso and Niger from ECOWAS

The three countries had on January 27,2024, announced their exit from the bloc claiming it has deviated from the objectives of its founding fathers.

ECOWAS had slammed Niger with biting sanctions following the coup in late July 2023. They include cutting off electricity supply to Niger, closure of borders and declaration of No – fly zone.
