Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, is dead.
A statement by the State government said he died after a prolonged battle with leukemia -cancer.of the blood
.He died at the age of 67.
Akeredolu travelled to Germany for treatment a few months after the General elections and returned in September and upon his arrival,decided to govern the state from Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
This led to a political upheaval that almost grounded the state but for the quick intervention of president Bola Tinubu who directed Akeredolu to handover power to his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The late governor was one of the few voices that amplified the principle of rotational presidency – power coming to the South and showed defiance to anything else.
In course of his stance for power shift, a Catholic Church in Owo ,his home town was attacked by gunmen killing several worshippers.
