Luck on Wednesday ran out of a yet to be identified fleeing prisoner who returned to his maternal home from the Owerri Correctional Centre as residents seized him and set him ablaze
Trouble started when the fleeing prisoner having arrived his Umuawom village in Ihodimeze community in Ikeduru council area of Imo went straight to one of the families that testified against him and threatened to deal with a member of the family with a gun.
The residents angered by the threat to life, descended on him and immediately set him ablaze.
The Police in the state is yet to officially confirm the incident.
The incident is coming amid reports of instreaming of prisoners back to the Owerri Correctional Centre
Governor Hope Uzodinma on Wednesday, said that about 85 prisoners had returned to the correctioal facility.
