The Cross Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of four of its personnel by hoodlums on Thursday morning along MCC Edundu road in Calabar.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo described the killing as unfortunate and very sad.
Ugbo said the matter is being investigated adding “that the culprits no matter how far they run or hide,we must get them,that I can assure you” she said.
The Police had reportedly gone to fish out some hoodlums who were disturbing the peace of a neighborhood when they were gunned down by the same hoodlums they had gone to arrest.
It was gathered that residents of the area where the killing took place have gone into hiding and streets in the neighborhood have been deserted for fear of reprisal from the police.
It was also leant that the remains of the officers have been deposited in a morgue in Calabar.
