Suspended Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has been reinstated.
This was contained in a statement on Wednesday by the Director Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education,Ben-Bem Goong
According to the statement, the decision to reinstate Ogundipe followed approval of the visitation panel report by the visitor to the University of Lagos, President Muhammadu Buhari.
The report indicates that the removal of Ogundipe did not follow due process as he was not given the opportunity to defend himself on allegations upon which his removal was based. Therefore,he should accordingly be reinstated
The report said the process adopted by the council in the appointment of Professor Omololu Soyombo as Acting Vice Chancellor of the University was inconsistent with the provisions of the law relating to the appointment of an Acting Vice-Chancellor and recommended the dissolution of the governing Council.
Ogundipe was removed in office in August under protracted controversial circumstances by the then governing board of the university led by Dr Wale Babalakin
The council appointed Professor Omololu Soyombo as his replacement
Shortly after Ogundipe’s replacement, the University was embroiled in another round of crisis . In the ensuing scenario, the Senate of the University met and elected the Deputy Vice Chancellor of development services,Professor Folashade Ogunshola to replace Soyombo.
