President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reappointment of Professor Mamood Yakubu as INEC Chairman for another term.
A letter to his reappointment has been forwarded to the Senate President for confirmation.
What this means is that the general elections in 2023 will be under the watch of Yakubu .
Yakubu’s reappointment for 5 more years is contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity,Femi Adesina and reads:
“President Muhammadu Buhari has presented the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC,Professor Mahmood Yakubu for a second term in office.
” In a letter to President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, the President said in accordance with the provision of Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,1999 (as amended)” Iam pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the nomination of Processor Mahmood Yakubu for appointment as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second and final term”
