The Kano State Hisbah Corps, the law enforcement organ of sharia law, has arrested some Youths in the state for what it called dressing. that failed to represent Islamic principles.
The boys were wearing three quater jeans ,Short knickers and T-shirts with different hair cuts which the Hisbah found offensive and members forcefully shaved the hair of the boys they arrested.
The Shari’a police also apprehended Tricycle riders in the state for decorating their tricycles(Keke) with posters of Nigerian Musicians,Davido and Naira Marley,
The action by the Hisbah has generated a lot of concern especially the fundamental rights of the youths arrested. Some Kano residents who spoke with current matters said the Hisbah has gone too far.
According to them, they should have asked the boys to go home and complied with Islamic doctrines instead of arresting them and shaving their hair.
They wondered if Hisbah was created to be a check on the poor and vulnerable as they would not have arrested the boys if they were in posh cars or come from rich families.
They urge Hisbah to focus more or crimes like stealing, rape and killing that are gaining prominence than trivial matters like hair cuts and wearing jeans.
The same Hisbah was responsible for the arraignment of Kano singer, Yahaya Shariff-Aminu, before a Shari’a Court which sentenced him to death in August.
