A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday, sentenced two men to 20 years in prison for $1million fraud in the Federal Capital Territory. (FCT).
Justice Olasumbo Goodluck, the High Court Chief Judge convicted the two men,Mahmud A.Mohammed and Ikechukwu Nkwocha-Phillip to 10 years in prison each for fraud without an option of fine
Justice Goodluck also convicted Al-Maqarinaz International Limited,a company belonging to Mohammed.
The three convicts reportedly appeared before the justice alongside Globetec Resources Limited, the third defendant on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of$1million (N380million equivalent)
The convicts were said to have committed the crime in October 2017 in Abuja.and arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC
They were charged with intent to defraud, conspired among themselves to obtain the sum of$1000,000 from Ismaila Abdulgaffar, the Chief Executive Officer of Emex Oil Ndawta Limited under the false pretence of supplying him with Nigerian Bonny Light Crude Oil via MT AL Albar.an offence which contravened Section 8(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006.
They pleaded guilty as a result of overwhelming witnesses and testimonies proving the authenticity of the matter.
The Justice posited that the charges against the defendants proved to be true and subsequently convicted two defendants while the third defendant, Globetec Resources was not convicted.
Apart from serving terms in jail, the convicts are to return the sum of N380million to Emex Oil Ndawta Limited while the third defendant is to repay the sum of$20,000 that was initially paid by Emex Oil Ndawta Limited to procure a fiduciary account for the supply.
