A man identified as Mohammed, on Wednesday drowned in a burrow pit behind Timber Market,Rumuosi,in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Elder brother to the deceased, Hassan Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said he received the sad news around 2.30pm on Wednesday.
He said when he arrived at the scene of the incident,he discovered that there was no way his younger brother could have been rescued because of the risky terrain.
Speaking to newsmen on the incident, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee, Rumuosi town,Kaniye Achinike told newsmen that all efforts to recover the corpse from the burrow proved abortive.
Achinike said that he received a call from the Timber Market on Wednesday that he should rush down that there was a problem.
He said” When I got there,I was not happy at all,it was very unfortunate,We thought of the solution, how to bring the young man out.Some suggested that we should get fire service workers,”
According to him, when they eventually got the fighters, the operatives declined to enter the burrow pit because of its risky nature
Achinike disclosed that more than 100 moslem faithful of Hausa extraction including their legal adviser, gathered at the scene of the incident and offered prayers
