The Kogi State Police Command has arrested one Jacob Irewa for allegedly setting his wife Berida Irawo,on fire.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 14,2026 at Oworo Estate,Felele, Lokoja.
In a statement, the Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Salisu Afusat said the man was arrested for allerged attempted culpable homicide
According to him,” On Friday,14th August 2026,at about 2030 hours , the B Division Surveillance Team, Felele received a report of the incident, and immediately mobilised to the scene, where the suspect was arrested”
Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident followed a domestic disagreement after the victim burnt some of the suspect’s clothes which she believed he was no longer using, without his permission.
The suspect subsequently threatened her, fetched petrol from his motorcycle and proceeded to set her ablaze “
The victim is sad to be receiving treatment at Honey Gold Hospital,Felele.
In his statement, the suspect admitted to setting his wife on fire.
Irewa ,in a video shared by Arise TV said he had never laid his hands on his wife.
” We haven’t fought before,I haven’t laid my hand on her before talk less of setting her on fire. It happened beyond my imagination and have been praying everyday and night so that this kind of thing will not happen to me. But my God,I put my trust in you, you will deliver me and you will heal my wife. We will not die but we shall serve the Lord “
