A Team of Experts from the Federal Ministry of Health Abuja is in Gombe for assessment of facilities on ground for the immediate commencement of operations of the Federal Orthopaedic Hospital Billiri in Gombe State.
The Ministerial Technical Committee arrived in Gombe on Wednesday July 22, 2026 and went straight to the State Ministry of Health on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Health, Prof. Abdullahi Adamu Bojude.
The Technical Team led by Dr. Amina Zubair Kazaure, a Director in the Federal Ministry of Health, was accompanied by five other Officials of the Ministerial Technical Committee.
Speaking during the courtesy visit, Dr Amina Kazaure, said that the visit was the first of many other visits that will be embarked on by the Federal Ministry of Health for the assessment of the temporary and permanent sites of the Hospital which was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu early this year.
According to her, after the first assessment visit to Billiri , they will give recommendations as to what needs to be done for the full operations of the Hospital.
She commended the Gombe State Government for partnering with the Federal Government in the provision of facilities on the temporary site promising that all that was needed for the take off of the Hospital will be provided.
Responding, the Gombe State Commissioner of Health, Professor Abdullahi Adamu Bojude, expressed his appreciation to the Federal Government for siting the Orthopedic Hospital in the State and assured the Ministerial Technical Committee of all the support for the smooth and effective take off of the Hospital.
He appealed to the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Mohammed, who was also present, to assist in availing his staff for the immediate take off of the hospital by providing the technical support and personnel who will oversee the immediate take off of the Hospital.
The team will be received by the State Governor Alhaji Muhammed Inuwa Yaya before proceeding to Billiri for the inspection of the two sites.
The visiting technical team was joined on arrival by the Chairman Project Implementation Committee from the office of the Member Representing Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ali Isa JC, PhD, in the persons of Hon. Hassan Ahmadu Haruna, Chairman, Project Monitoring Committee, Hon. Yusuf Manu Swa and other aides of Dr. Ali Isa JC.
It could be recalled that the Member Representing Balanga Billiri Federal Constituency, Hon. Ali Isa JC, sponsored a Bill last year for the establishment of a Federal Orthopedic Hospital Billiri.
The Bill received accelerated hearing and was passed by the National Assembly and accented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a record time.
The Orthopedic Hospital will be the first of its kind in North Eastern Nigeria and will also bring to four the Number of Federal Medical Institutions in Gombe State which include Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe, Federal Medical Centre Kumo, Federal Orthopedic Hospital Billiri and the recently approved Snake Bite Research Centre, Kaltungo.
