President Bola Tinubu has granted a final six-month extension to Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi.
The extension, announced on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, will now expire in February 2027.
Adeniyi’s previous tenure extension was due to end on August 1, 2026.
Onanuga said the extension is to allow Adeniyi consolidate implementation of the National Single Window and ensure an orderly succession in the service.
During the transition period, Adeniyi will work with the NCS Board to promote eligible officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs and effect compulsory retirement of officers who have attained 60 years of age or completed 35 years in service.
Adeniyi joined the Customs Service in the late 1980s after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University.
He rose through the ranks, becoming Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller General in 2020, and acting Deputy Comptroller General in January 2023.
President Tinubu appointed him Comptroller General in June 2023.
