Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election if rigging becomes the defining factor

Lawal made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday,.

The former SGF said if the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress ADC,Atiku Abubakar is solely dependent on manipulating the election results that president Bola Tinubu being the “master”would rig him out.

Answering question about what he thinks the outcome of the 2027 presidential election would be, Lawal said “Landslide. He’ll rig everybody.”

“If the parameter for winning elections in Nigeria is rigging, nobody can face Bola Tinubu in this country. If Atiku’s strength is in manipulating results, I wish him luck; he will meet the master rigger in front,” he added.

Lawal further dismissed the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying Atiku presidency worse than Tinubu”

“I know Atiku. I have studied his antecedents and realised that his presidency will be worse than Bola Tinubu’s. I do not want to enter a situation in which I will regret my decision. I realised that the Nigeria we need is not available in Atiku’s leadership,” he said.

He stated that Atiku lacked the qualities required to lead the country, and said he would not support the former vice president’s bid for the presidency.

Lawal s comments came after he announced his resignation from the ADC, earlier on Monday alleging that the party’s recently concluded presidential primary was marred by irregularities in favour of Atiku.

“Results were just written or rewritten to favour him and his coven. Even where they allowed some semblance of election to hold, the winners were simply replaced with members of his syndicate,” he alleged.

Describing the ADC as a rigging machine” Lawal said he could not remain in such a platform adding” Iam supporting nobody. I don’t want to be part of anything for now “.

Atiku had emerged the winner of the ADC Presidential primary last week after he polled 1,846,370 votes, defeating former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

Meanwhile, the Atiku Media Team have fired back at the former SGF
describing his recent attacks on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate as completely false and driven by personal hatred.

In a press release on Monday, the media office stated that while Lawal has every right to leave the party, he has no right to spread lies about Atiku Abubakar.

The camp dismissed Lawal’s allegations of rigging, tribalism, and religious bigotry, labeling them as lazy and ridiculous. They insisted that Atiku remains one of Nigeria’s most liberal and unifying politicians.

“Babachir was perfectly describing his own character rather than Atiku’s,” the statement said. “The former SGF seeks power by dividing people. All his arguments with others are caused by selfishness. He uses sentiment to achieve his own ambitions, not the interests of his people or Nigeria.”

The media office also noted that Lawal failed to provide any proof of election fraud in the recently concluded ADC primaries, choosing instead to make irrelevant attacks on Atiku’s family.

They urged the former SGF to check his conscience and stop promoting division for personal gain, adding that losing a political contest does not justify acting as an agent of division.
