
The Federal Government has filed a 3 Count charge of cybercrime against former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai over unlawful Interception of phone lines of the National Security Adviser,NSA,Nuhu Ribadu.
The charge alleges cybercrime and breaching of the Communications Act by the former governor..
El – Rufai had in a television interview last week admitted to having access to the telephone conversation of the National Security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The first count reads that his comments contravenes section 12 subsection 1 of the cybercrime act amendment act 2024.
Count 2 reads that having contact with an indibvidual who has illegal access to the phone calls of the NSA without reporting to the Security agencies is punishable under Section 27 of the Cybercrime prevention and prohibition act 2024 as amended.
Count 3 that he and other persons still at large used technical equipments or systems which compromised public safety, National Security and instilling reasonable apprehension of insecurity among Nigerians by unlawfully intercepting the phone calls of the National Security Adviser which is punishable under section 131 subsection 2 of the Nigerian Communications Act.
In the meantime, the former governor was at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday in honour of an invitation by the anti – corruption agency for an alleged N432Billon about ( $319 million) corruption case.
El – Rufai is facing probe after all 28 members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly unanimously approved a petition of alleged financial impropriety during his eight – year tenure as governor to both the EFCC and ICPC.
Current matters understands that some of the commissioners who served under him are being quizzed by the agencies.
