
Prof. Joash Amupitan has assumed duty as the New Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC after being sworn in by President Bola Tinubu
Amupitan,who arrived at the state house in company of his wife and other prominent individuals took the oath of office on Thursday afternoon.
The professor of Law was confirmed by the Senate after his screening last Thursday, October 16,2025.
He was nominated by the President Tinubu and unanimously endorsed by the National Council of State following the expiration of the tenure of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
During screening, Amupitan had assured of overseeing an electoral system where transparency, credibility and voters confidence would be restored
