FG fixes August 3 for resumption of students in final year. 

The Minister of state for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba says schools in Nigeria will now open on August 3,2020, to enable students in transitional classes to write their final exams.

Nwajiuba who made the announcement during the Presidential Task Force briefing on Covid-19 in Abuja on Monday said secondary school students would resume on the third of August to prepare for their WASSCE which will now hold on August 17.

He said that exams that are common with all the 5 countries taking the WASSCE, the exam will hold on August 17, however he said the exams that are peculiar with Nigeria would begin on September 5, 2020

Earlier, The federal Ministry of Education had announced that schools will reopen for exit classes. on August 4,2020.

A statement by the Director Press and Public Relations, Ben, Ben, Goong
said the decision was reached at a virtual consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education of the thirty six states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, the proprietors of private schools and the Chief Executive of examination bodies.

The Ministry stated that students will have two weeks to prepare for the exams which will begin on August 17,2020

The Ministry further said that secondary schools in the country are to reopen on the said date for final year pupils and students only.

Another meeting of other Examination bodies with the Education Ministry is set to hold on Tuesday . to harmonise examination dates for NECO, NABTEP and NBIAS.
