Magu’s Probe: Presidency reacts, says it is evident that the fight against corruption is real

Garba Shehu

The Presidency has said that those who see the probe of Ibrahim Magu, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC,as antithesis which underscored the failure of the anti-graft fight of the Buhari administration had missed the point..

In a statement in Abuja on Saturday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said instead of looking at the probe from such a narrow perspective,it should rather be seen as a proof that the fight against corruption is real

While he noted that there are no sacred cows in the fight against corruption,he warned” For those who think they have a halo over their heads, their days are also numbered.’

Magu is being investigated for 21point allegations of corruption, and misconduct by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

In course of the ongoing investigation, his houses were searched while choice properties at home and abroad were allegedly linked to him

He had applied for bail through his legal counsel on the premise of self recognizance

His counsel Oluwatoyin Ojaomo had said on Channels Television that Magu was being quizzed because he discovered that the monies remitted were far from the figures declared.

The former EFCC boss was suspended before he was replaced by Mohammed Umar, Director of Operations of the EFCC, for reason that the investigation should be carried out unhindered.
