The local government congresses held by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo state on Saturday was marked by violence in some parts of the state.
Current matters learnt that two factions- the Makinde and Wike- led factions held separate congresses across the state.
The Wike-led faction organised its local government congresses on Saturday.
The congresses however turned violent, leading to attacks on several persons. About 25 people were reportedly injured.
Local government areas where occured included Ibadan North, Ido, Ibarapa Central, Akinyele and Ogbomoso North.
It was learnt that the residence of a former governor of the state, Barrister Hazim Gbolarumi located at Bodija in Ibadan North local government area,was also not spared by the hoodlums who destroyed properties
worth millions of naira.
Confirming the incident,Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade,said that the command is on top of the matter.
“It is an internal affair of a political party. It did not happen at the congress. It is outside the congress venues.
“We received a report of the attack on the residence of a former governor of the state. CP has ordered for the arrest of the hoodlums. We are on top of the matter,” the police spokesman said.
The PDP, has split into factions following what appears to be a protracted internal crisis before and after the 2023 presidential election.
Some notable chieftains like the former Vice president,Atiku Abubakar,Sen David Mark and several governors elected on the platform have all moved to other parties and numerous court cases involving the party create uncertainty for the future of the party in the 2027 general elections.
