Operatives of the Community Protection Guard (CPG) in Zamfara State have intercepted a vehicle loaded with weapons suspected to be destined for bandits.
The CPG operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), and rounds of ammunition during the operation at Dangulbi community.
A member of the CPG, Salisu Adamu, said the discovery was made during a routine stop-and-search exercise.
“The weapons were concealed inside a carton of fish. When we insisted on searching the vehicle, the driver initially resisted,” Adamu said.
The driver, identified as Bashar Mustapha, said he had loaded passengers and goods from Gusau Park en route to Magami before being stopped at Dangulbi.
He admitted that the weapons were found in his vehicle but claimed they belonged to a female passenger who boarded from Gusau.
The CPG has handed over the suspect and the recovered items to security agencies for further investigation.
