A Federal High Court in Kano has nullified the reinstatement of Mohammed Sanusi ll as the 16th Emir of Kano.
Delivering his judgement on Thursday, the presiding Judge, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman said every step taken by the Kano government” is hereby nullified and becomes invalid”
The judge said that while the court action does not affect the validity of the repealed Emirates law , the action taken by the Governor which includes assenting to the Law and reappointment of Sanusi are affected.
Justice Liman explained that the situation could have been averted if the governor complied with an order of court maintaining status quo pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice
” Having been satisfied that the respondents are aware of the court order, the court in exercise of its powers set aside an action because it is in violation of the court’s order.I think it’s a very serious matter for anyone to flout the orders of the court and go scot free with it.”
Sanusi ll was first reinstated the 16th Emir of Kano in May four years after being sacked by the Abdullahi Ganduje’s government .
