The Supreme Court has dismissed the application filed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP,Atiku Abubakar, to admit fresh evidence in his appeal against President Bola Tinubu’s election victory.
Atiku had sought a relief of appeal to present fresh evidence of forgery against Tinubu on his academic records which he obtained from the Chicago State University CSU.
But ruling on the matter on Thursday, October 26,the apex court dismissed Atiku’s petition for lack of jurisdiction describing it as a friendly joke that could not be granted.
The seven – member panel held that the case was filed out of time and could not establish evidence of forgery.against Tinubu.
Atiku had informed the court that the fresh evidence he had from the CSU was crucial to his appeal, adding that it has jurisdiction to entertain and decide on the application.
