We stand by reports from state offices on Akwa Ibom North West,Yobe North Senatorial primaries – INEC.

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says no form of allegations will stop it from performing its constitutional duties of ensuring credibility of elections.

The Commission disclosed this in a statement issued by the Chairman , Information and Voter Education Commitee,Mr Festus Okoye in Abuja on Saturday.

The statement regrets allegations against the commission on social media in relation to the Akwa Ibom North West and Yobe North Senatorial District primaries but said the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria “mandates it to monitor the organisation and operation of political parties ,including their Fnances, Convention, Congresses and party primaries

” In line with its legal and constitutional obligations, the commission deployed monitors to various constituencies and received reports of such exercise.

‘ln relation to the primary for the Akwa Ibom North West and Yobe North Senatorial District , the commission stands by the monitoring reports received by our state offices

” For this reason, the commission did not publish the personal particulars of any candidate for the two constituencies at variance with the state reports

He said that the commission cannot go back on taking decision on the same matter more than once and advised aggrieved parties to take their grievances to the Federal High Court and seek redress as provided in Section,285 of the 1999 constitution and the Electoral Act,2022. adding that the commission would continue to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
