Hoodlums in Benin City, the Edo State capital on Tuesday,,took advantage of the#EndSARS protest inspite of the 24 hour curfew imposed by the state government, stormed the Nigerian Customs Service out station in Benin and carted away some of the seized contrabands in the warehouse.
Current matters gathered that the angry youths attacked the station at about 3pm defying a heavy downpour and looted the warehouse for more than 4 hours.
The officer in charge of the station, Meshach Uban, told newsmen that he and other officers were lucky to have escaped.
According to him, distress calls put to the state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo proved unsuccessful as there was no response from the police.
The invasion of the custom station came just a day after hoodlums burnt police station and freed inmates of the correctional center at Sapele Road Benin City.
Following the situation of chaos and in order to forestall further breakdown of law and order,Governor Godwin Obaseki imposed a 24 hour curfew in all parts of the state.
