Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says it is in the best interest of the country to allow individuals to carry guns as means of defending themselves against attacks
Ortom who stated this in an interview with newsmen, said Insecurity is the major problem in the country as no one is talking about anything else.
” Insecurity is the major problem in Nigeria today. It is not hunger.Nobody is talking about the economy again.When you are not safe,how can you do investment, how can you go and borrow money from the bank and invest where you no that your investment is not safe? So we must as Nigerians find ways. he said.
According to him, the Presidency is vested with the power to authorise policies that can allow people to carry gun stressing that it would be best to find lasting solution to the problem of insecurity.
The governor said due to the enforcement of the law of grazing in the state, the problem of herders and farmers clashes has gone down and farmers have returned to their farms although” periodically we have issues of guerrilla attacks of this herdsmen”
