The Federal Government says it’s has concluded arrangements to drop the plastic Identity cards for Digital.
Minister of Interior,Rauf Aregbesola made this known to State House Correspondents after leading members of the Committee on Citizen Data Management and Harmonisation to present their report to President Buhari at the Presidential Villa Abuja,
Aregbesola said” The plastic card is just for convenience. The real thing is the number you have”
“With that number, you are on the data bank.Everything about you is there.
According to him, the data bank is being upgraded to include DNA.” I will know if you are the one in the car with your DNA”
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy,Isa Patami also addressing the press said,” The world has gone digital so that card is no more”.
Patami said the digital ID is already applied on International passport and that once adding,”Once you have the digital ID but not the card,we are 100% done with you.”.
The United States Government had in January,2020, imposed visa restrictions on Nigeria and 5 other countries,Eritrea, Myanmar, Tanzania,Sudan and Kyrgyzstan for failing to meet it’s Security and Information sharing standards.
This prompted the setting up of the Aregbesola led commitee on citizen data management by President Buhari .
