University Student commits suicide after “One Chance” operators defrauded her of her school fees. 

A first year student of the Department of History and International Studies, University of Calabar ,has committed suicide over her inability to recover money meant for her school fees which was alleged to have been
scammed by” money doublers”

The deceased, Veronica Bako Myomuter,18, who hailed from Katsina Ala in Benue State was said to have drank ” Sniper” a substance used in killing rodents,on Thursday, August 6,2020,at her home in Katsina Ala.

The deceased was said to have seen a social media message sent to her to invest in a money doubling scheme with the assurance that she would get her money doubled in minutes.The deceased teenager succumbed to the message and invested N100,000 believed to be her school fees which unfortunately she could not pay to the school before the outbreak of the Covid-19.

When it became clear that she had been duped, she became depressed and withdrawn.Her family members who noticed the behavior change, asked her what was wrong,,she told them she was fine. Her mother then asked her to go to the market since she was alright to buy a few things for herself.She told the mother she wanted to have a bath before going,so she went to the bathroom ,saw “Sniper” and swallowed it. She reportedly struggled and fell outside the bathroom.A neighbour who saw her lying on the floor alerted her relations who hurried to the scene and asked her what happened ,, and she told them she took “Sniper.”

She was alleged to have sent a text message to the scanner before she died,with a warning that if she dies,her blood will be on the head of the person.
