Hibiscus farming given a boost as farmers get approved seeds 

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has commenced the distribution of improved hibiscus seeds popularly called Zobo to 5000 farmers in Jigawa State.

Speaking on the occasion, the North West Coordinator of the council, Alhaji Hassan Bala, said that Jigawa State was chosen because it is the number one zobo producing state in the country

He said that the commodity is currently one of the best sources forforeign exchange earnings,as such the council decided to support the farmers for better harvest and ensure that it is well processed for export.

He said” Zobo is now a precious commodity in the world market due to its value chain.In the past,there were problems encountered due to the quality of the commodity being exported, therefore,NEPC will monitor the farming activity at all stages from planting, harvesting and packaging to ensure that the best quality product is packaged and exported”.
